Plain City is committed to balancing growth with environmental stewardship. Because of our location near the Big Darby Creek, a designated State and National Scenic River, we work closely with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) to ensure that our water and sewer systems protect this important watershed.

Recognizing the need to modernize infrastructure and meet evolving standards, the Village partnered with Madison County in 2022 to develop a regional approach to water and sewer services. This collaboration led to the creation of the Mid-Ohio Water and Sewer District (MOWSD) in 2023, which now manages water and sewer infrastructure for Plain City, London, and surrounding townships.

MOWSD is currently constructing a new regional wastewater treatment plant near the intersection of I-70 and US-42 near London. Plain City will be connected to this facility by approximately 11 miles of new pipeline. This regional system will provide enhanced reliability, meet EPA requirements, and support sustainable growth for years to come.

Currently, available sewer capacity in Plain City is fully committed to ongoing projects. The EPA guidelines require careful management of new permits to protect the watershed. Once the new regional system becomes operational in mid-2028, sewer capacity will become available across the MOWSD service area, including Plain City.
